I ain't got any idea on ships, their construction and control on seas.
How does any pirate plunder any ship on coast when it is protected by protection forces?

Be ye wondering about the Pirates of old or the modern day Pirates?
The Pirates of old used fear and intimidation to plunder and pillage. Merchants knew if they surrendered they would lose their goods but would not be harmed, fight back and ye could lose yer life as well. Pirates would never kill wantonly as a crew that thought they would die either way would fight to the death, much easier for the Pirates if they granted mercy to all who surrendered.

It isn't easy. The ships on the coast are well guarded by the protection forces. Well, the ambush on the protection forces is attempted from all the possible directions to weaken them strategically. Foolproof planning and implementation is essential though.

Before you could attempt any attack on the ship there are certain things that needs to be interpreted and understood .
    Layout of the ship
Details of protection forces and back up
Retreat from the attack if it turns out be a disaster

Yeah, You are right.
Pirating isn't fun. Needs lot of courage and commitment, planning, execution and sheer timing with a little bit of luck as well.

I agree with you. Indeed it needs a lot of courage to go ahead with pirating in plundering the ships.
